Men are just great!

"According to a new survey, women say they feel more comfortable undressing in front of men than they do undressing in front of other women. They say that women are too judgmental, where, of course, men are just grateful."

What is Sexism?

Role conditioning goes deep – so it may still sound odd when Dad cooks supper and Mum goes off on a business trip. But why should it – and how do we change it?

Many of us, though we pay lip service to the idea of equality of the sexes, remain secretly convinced that there are certain jobs more suited to men, for example, or character traits which belong essentially to women. But in fact there are few jobs which the right women cannot perform equally well and few aspects of personality which strictly are the prerogative of one sex alone.

We are really all conditioned in our views of what is masculine and feminine by the society we live in. But there is nothing inherently male or female about most roles, except the sexual ones and that of giving birth and feeding a baby. In some tribes in New Guinea, for example, the men are expected to stay at home and care for the children while the women go to work in the fields.

In recent years, the strict division between male and female roles has begun to work within marriage and even while bringing up children. But, unless both partners have given great thought to their arrangements there is a danger that both will feel guilty or resentful about their role rather than enriched.

A woman brought up from a little girl to see marriage and children as her main role in life may deliberately restrict her progress at work even though she is talented. She has not been led to expect a successful career and is grateful to be working at all. However, this does not mean she will not feel dissatisfied with herself and the life she leads.

In the same way, a man who has been brought up to believe that a successful career is all important and that housework and children are a woman’s responsibility, will have difficulty in adapting to the demands made on him by a working wife. He may see himself as doing a great favor rather than welcoming the opportunity to develop a different side of his personality.

Discouraging Sexual Stereotypes

As parents, we can do much to encourage flexible attitudes in our children that will give them greater freedom in adult life. We often channel small children into so-called male or female roles without realizing it. But we all have many aspects to our personality. The more we can develop the various sides, whether at work, home or leisure, the more balanced and fulfilled we become.

Encourage all your children, whether boys of girls, to be curious and independent as well as thoughtful and caring. They should feel confident about exploring or learning about anything that interest them, whether it is horses, or sewing, climbing trees or dancing, without being concerned as to whether it is a masculine or feminine thing to do.

Parents who encourage their children to think and behave in this way are helping them to escape from the limitations imposed by sexual stereotyping of previous generations.

How to be a Sensual Woman

Use music: Music is one of the best ways for changing your state and influencing your mood. Listen to music that makes you feel grateful, soft, peaceful, happy, serene, joyful, and free. You can even dance to it in your own home.

Accentuate the attributes you have that are the opposite of a man’s: It’s in the way you sit, the way you talk, the words you use, how you use your hands, how you smile, how you touch others, how you greet people (words and the physical aspects). A lot of women stand and walk like men, drink like a man would, unknowingly. They stand with their hands on their hips the way a man would do it, and sway their arms and legs in the way that a strong and powerful man would do.

Work-out on accentuating and improving every feminine aspect of your body: This includes the buttocks, the legs, the tummy, and the breasts (weights to help the breasts defy gravity.) Do smaller weights with more repetitions that keep your arms toned, rather than strong looking.

Sensual women are delicate: Any jewellery that is overly harsh starts to take away from the woman and draw attention to fashion.

Men go crazy over a woman who can give them a genuine smile: It does not matter what her physical attributes are, if you give a man a genuine, happy smile and look him in the eye – he is going to be profoundly affected. Ask any man who is in touch with his masculinity whether a smile is extremely important in a woman and he will say yes.

Appreciate men for being men: Always show appreciation for a masculine man.

Love your body

A woman, who loves her body, is a beautiful woman! And when you are beautiful, you are sexy.

And isn’t it true that men know when a woman loves her body? A woman who goes around feeling good about herself and her body and feels radiant and beautiful always gets the admiration of men and is sexy to men.

As a woman, you must always work on your physical confidence and focus on bringing out your best features. It is a fact that nobody is prefect - everyone has flaws. Get to know yourself, identify your strong physical points, and display them for the world to admire and enjoy.

What is inside the body and mind is reflected on the outside. To have a beautiful, glowing look, you have to take care of the inside of your body too. And that is done by eating right so that your body can get the right nutrients, by exercising right so that your muscles would be toned and flexible, and by drinking a lot of water to wash out the waste and toxins from your body. Another thing that you should do is to minimize or even eliminate the consumption of alcohol. You should also quit smoking. Visit the dentist regularly as well to keep your teeth white, strong, and healthy.

Remember, what matters is that women should learn to take better care of themselves and when this is achieved, you will love the results, and in turn, you would love your body. And other people will love you!

Intimacy and relationships

A basic expectation of a relationship is that the relationship must provide us with closeness or intimacy.
However, what does intimacy means? It means to know my partner very well, be able to communicate on a deeper level, feeling safe and to share secrets. It also means that we can be open with the ones we love without fearing of rejection. Trust is part of intimacy – we must trust each other; even with our lives!

Unfortunately, the need for intimacy is also a source of conflict within the relationship as men and women have different opinions and views of what intimacy indeed is. We all want love and intimacy but we do not see these two things in the same light.

It is a fact that men and women are from ‘different planets’:

- Men view intimacy in a relationship in terms of power and bring this into the relationship. Money is power for them and therefore they may show their love through loyalty and providing financially for their partners. To be wealthy, is a way of expressing their commitment and caring in a relationship. That is why they are not always able to communicate their deepest, intimate feelings to their partners.

- On the other hand, women, often need that personal touch – those little intimate gestures of attention, love, and affection that make them feel special and close to their partners. Women are more inclined to demonstrate their love by means of being warm and affectionate and by expressing their emotions.

Due to these differences between men and women, in understanding intimacy and the different ways in showing it, we need to talk to each other. If we do not, misunderstandings, which could lead to dissatisfaction and anger, are likely to sour any relationship.

How alcohol affects women

Whether we like it or not, the simple fact is that alcohol affects men and women differently.

According to US research, alcoholism among women is on the rise across the globe. The reasons are hotly debated but it is thought that greater entry into the job market, and the stresses that it brings, greater financial independence, and greater pressure on the home front are all contributing factors. As well as anxiety, depression and loneliness in single and divorced women.

How does it affect our bodies?

Women are, on average, smaller than men are; so equivalent doses of alcohol lead to greater concentration in their bodies.

Women carry more fatty tissue than men. Body fat contains little water, so women have less water with which to dilute the alcohol.

Women have lesser amounts of the enzyme that metabolises alcohol, so more of the alcohol that women consume enters the bloodstream as pure alcohol.

When women’s oestrogen levels are high, such as when they are premenstrual, the intoxicating effects of alcohol will set in faster.

Chronic consumption of alcohol also increases the risk of breast cancer.

Moderation is the key. The secret lies in moderation rather than total abstinence (unless advised otherwise by your doctor); if you are a social drinker and suddenly go cold turkey, you are more likely to start a cycle of binge drinking. For the same reason, it is also best not to abstain for a whole week and then take the whole week's units in one sitting.

Men Are More than Sex and Sleep: Understanding the 6 Male Emotional States

How often have you heard that when it comes to emotions, men are uncomplicated at best? The quest to understand men can be frustrating for women. You may have noticed that your spouse, boyfriend or partner seems to have limited interests – to put it nicely. Is there more on your man’s mind than the next time he’s going to get some?

The simple truth is that in general, men really are . . . well, simple! They have just six emotional states—no less, and no more. He’s not always thinking about sex, but it ranks right up there with food, sports, and sleep.

The good news for you ladies is that it’s not impossible to understand men after all. Once you know how your man thinks, you’re on your way to better communication, fewer arguments, and a stronger relationship. Here’s a quick overview of the six male states:

* Happy – This state is usually the result of anything that inflates his ego. You can spot a happy man by the way he smiles, converses well, and is kind to small animals. Don’t waste Happy on asking him to clean out the garage; this is the best time for both of you to have some fun!

* Hungry – When a man is in a Hungry state, nothing but food will do. Distracting him with something inedible won’t work. Also, don’t bother asking, “Are you hungry?” because the answer is always yes. It’s the degree of Hungry that is important. A ravenous man can quickly enter an angry state without food to calm him.

* Hurried – Focus is important to a man, and when he’s set on going somewhere or getting something done, he’s in a hurried state. This is not the best time to engage your man in conversation. The rule of communication for a hurried man is keep it to 25 words or less. He’ll remember what you said, and he’ll appreciate you for keeping it short.

* Horny – You knew this had to be one of them! When your man is Horny, he’s basically putty in your hands. He’ll promise anything if he thinks there is sex in the near future. You can improve your relationship dramatically if you’re kind and sympathetic to the Horny state – use it, but don’t abuse it.

* Angry – Most angry women can be talked out of it. Most angry men can’t. The most important thing to remember is that when he is Angry, it’s probably not about you. Give your Angry man some space to cool down, don’t try to snuggle or engage him in conversation (it won’t help), and don’t tell him to stop being angry. Instead, try to find out what he prefers when he’s angry some time during a happy state, and respect his methods of coping. You’ll avoid a lot of potential arguments.

* Tired – A Tired man is the opposite of a Hungry man. Whereas everything is urgent when he’s hungry, nothing is important when he’s tired . . . except sleep. Do not discuss important relationship matters or impending events with your tired man. He won’t remember, and it will only make you both upset.

There are a few important things you should remember about a man’s emotional state. Since he has only six, his emotions tend to be intense. He’s never a little hungry or a little tired. He’s starving, or he’s exhausted! To understand men, keep in mind that he doesn’t operate on small scales – it’s all or nothing.

Also, once you’ve practiced gauging your man’s emotional state, he will be more sensitive to yours. He will appreciate that you understand him, and he’ll try harder to please you. A little effort on both sides goes a long way in relationships, so don’t give up on trying communicating with your Pig – er, man!

Skirts and dresses over the years

The earliest styled garments were draped around the body, accentuating its contours while marking the wearer’s status and gender. In Egypt this form of dress developed before 1500 BC. From the schenti, a belted loincloth that was more like a pleated, knee-length skirt.

For woman, the skirt finished under the breasts, secured by shoulder straps. The styles adopted by the classical Greeks and Romans were looser. The chiton, which formed the basis of the Greek wardrobe from 700BC, fell from the shoulders and waist in folds. The man’s chiton was shorter, but otherwise there was little difference between the sexes.

In Italy, the early Etruscans used ties to create close- fitting dresses, but contact with Greek civilisation led to the adoption of a draped chiton for Roman women and a flowing, semicircular toga for men. In the 5th century AD the draped look was abandoned as the influence of northern Europe grew, spread by the Germanic tribes who invaded Gaul and raided Britain. From about 450 to 1300 the dress was a sewn, T-Shaped garment belted at the waist. A flared skirt helped to accentuate the bust, waist and hips.

Around 1350 the rise of competitive court societies in Italy and France introduced the idea of a fashion cycle. The dress now became the focus for the tailor’s skill and the wearer’s sophisticated taste. Lacing, buttoning and the cutting of fabric, across the grain all contributed to a fitted look.

The floor-length gown became an exclusively feminine item in the early 16th century. From 1530 female costume was composed of the bodice and the skirt or ‘kirtle’; the one- piece outfit remained as a long undershift. This form of dressing was worn for ceremonial occasions until the 18th century.

For more private moments, the one-piece gown had re-emerged by 1700 as the loose, open-fronted ‘mantua’, which was often worn in the mornings. In the 1800’s advances in the technology of clothing production and materials led to a wider variety of styles suitable for particular occasions. The width of the crinoline dictated the fashion for skirts, blouses and jackets in the 1860’s but from 1870 princess line dresses were cut in one length.

By the turn of the century the new pursuits of cycling and tennis had hastened the fashion for tailored skirts and blouses. The trend for sensible rather than symbolic forms of dress-part of the movement towards emancipation - underpinned the simplification of the female dress. From 1925 the short, shirt-like dress encouraged the switch to mass production. It was left to designers such as Coco Chanel in the 1920’s and Christian Dior in the 1950’s to introduce stylistic features that reflected the mood and taste of the time.

The Wandering Eye

Does your partner have a wandering eye, and ogle other people while with you?

First, it is natural for humans to appreciate beauty in all forms. Just as you might look at a gorgeous sunset, or a beautiful beach, you can appreciate the beauty of a well-formed man or woman.

The question is whether your partner appreciates your unique qualities more than that person, and if he/she shows this appreciation. If your partner neglects you in favour of spending time with others, it is time to talk with him/her. A partner should respect the mate over others, and if the choice is a lonely mate or a "fun" friend, the mate should come first.

If you are feeling neglected or overlooked, sit down and talk about this with your partner. Look through the jealousy tips - you need to be realistic about how needy you are, but you also need your partner to respect you.
